Today we went over a class critique. We were supposed to help each other by critiquing our classmate’s design concepts. This produced a lot of great feedback that will help improve everybody’s projects. After presenting my project to a few classmates, I was able to look at my project with a new perspective. Now I’m focusing on designing a clean form, something that will give room for creativity to the costumer. I say creativity because this shoe is meant to be customizable; the consumer can paint and draw on his shoe. I want to give an opportunity to the consumer to leave his mark on the shoe, make it his own.

We were also given a new assignment; we have to sketch eight more concepts inspired by eight of the best ideas from the past assignment. This will help us find a solid direction for our final design language. My group, Team Target, also met with our CMF (Shaun, Color Material Finishing). We reviewed our briefs to understand how we plan to use materials and color on our shoes. The most important topic in this meeting was the material selection because the design story should also be reflected on our material choice. The last topic in this meeting was shoe branding. We decided that we need to finish our brand identity by the end of this week; this will help our CMF understand what our designs are about and the inspiration needed for him to create color and material suggestions for our projects.

D’Wayne planning today’s lesson. Dexter explaining his project brief and design concepts. Team Target talking with our CMF, Shaun, about our shoe concepts.
