Nice Kicks: What do you attribute your love of sneakers to?
TSgt Townsend: Growing up in the Jordan era, I wanted to “Be like Mike.” As I grew older, I started to collect my favorite basketball players’ shoes.

Nice Kicks: How many shoes do you currently own?
TSgt Townsend: Around 150.

Nice Kicks: Do you notice a difference in kicks worn in the various places you have been stationed, visited, or people you come in contact with being in the military?
TSgt Townsend: In the beginning of my career, I would notice a difference in how a region would like a certain pair of kicks. In the last couple years, as the shoe game has become bigger, you can’t really tell as much.

Nice Kicks: What is the favorite shoe in your collection?
TSgt Townsend: Air Jordan 13 “Flint.”

Nice Kicks: What is the craziest thing you have done for a pair of kicks?
TSgt Townsend: The craziest thing I had to do was have a couple friends that weren’t in the shoe game wait in line for me in different locations the second time the Flint 13s were released.
