Terrence Ross’ Case for 2014 Kicks On Court Champion

Last year around this time, Toronto Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan was considered one of the top nominees to win the 2013 Kicks On Court Champion award. On a team full of sneaker enthusiasts, DeRozan was the ringleader. A year later, Toronto Raptors guard Terrence Ross has stepped into the forefront of the Raptors’ Kicks On Court charge, and he has impressed spectators with his play and on-court footwear. The world has started to pay attention.

“T. Ross has been really coming with it this year,” says Phoenix Suns forward P.J. Tucker. “It’s easy for him and DeMar Derozan, though, because Toronto’s color scheme matches pretty much everything.”

Whether it’s easy or not, Ross took complete advantage of the Raptors’ red and black. He wore 14 different Air Jordan retros, most of which MJ wore during his reign. Sneaker favorites, such as the Air Jordan 13 Black/Red, the “Fire Red” Air Jordan 5 and the Air Jordan 3 ’88 Retro, dominate his Kicks On Court resume this season. Yet, he also made headlines by lacing up recently-released, heralded kicks throughout the season. He earned huge Sneaker Debut points for wearing the Air Jordan 10 “Doernbecher” during his dunk of the year, and he took part in the 2014 Sprite Slam Dunk Contest while rocking the “Spider-Man” Foamposite Pro. Though retros were seen in abundance, Ross’ favorites come from a website that is often visited by many NBA players.

“I love customizing my own shoes,” says Ross. “I’m always on NIKEiD checking out what I can create next.”

A number of Ross’ creations made their way to the court as well. He kicked off the season by unleashing four NIKEiD Kobe 8s during the first month of the NBA season. Does his varied on-court resume warrant the title this year? Check out his case below.

Ross began the season right where his teammate, and fifth place Kicks On Court Champion nominee of last year, DeMar DeRozan, ended last season. If you recall, DeRozan drove home the point that he was an aficionado of the Kobe 8 by wearing the shoe in many different colorways for the last 20 games of the 2012-2013 NBA season. Ross kicked off the season with a number of Kobes, including three Kobe 8 iDs, one of which used the ‘Pit Viper’ motif.
