Washington Mystics Announce ‘Stics & Kicks For a Cause Ahead of Sneakerhead Game

The Washington Mystics are giving back with some kicks as a part of their inaugural ‘Stics& Kicks For a Cause campaign ahead of the team’s Sneakerhead Game as they host the Seattle Storm on July 30.

A handful of the Mystics roster teamed up with Sammy Handler (@KicksBySammy) as each pair was hand drawn by the emerging artist & female entrepreneur in collaboration with the respective Mystics’ athletes, their inspirations, ideas, and causes they support and believe in as proceeds from each auction will go to the respective charities and organizations.

Elena Delle Donne, Natasha Cloud, Myisha Hines-Allen, Ariel Atkins, and Alysha Clark brought tapped their creativity and advocacy for the team’s first-ever ‘Stics & Kicks for a Cause.

Alysha Clark

About the design:

Alysha’s custom adidas Super Stars feature the All-Pro’s No. 22, the Washington D.C. city skyline, and carries several references to her passion for reading and her advocacy for combating the current climate of banning books throughout schools and libraries across the nation. Featuring the phrase “Open Books, Open Doors” and “Protect the Right to Read,” Alysha’s shoes are perfect for the Mystics fan looking to support her cause of uniting against book bans.

Proceeds from the auction of Alysha Clark’s custom adidas Super Stars benefit the American Library Association’s office for intellectual freedom and will be used to support librarians who face repercussions due to gender, sexual orientation, race, color, creed, religion, age, disability, and/or place of national origin; or because of defense of intellectual freedom.

Ariel Atkins

About the design:

Ariel’s custom Nike Air Force 1 Shadows feature nods to the 2-time All-Star’s on-court accomplishments, including the 2019 WNBA Championship and her Olympic Gold Medal as well as an ode to her collegiate alma-mater: The University of Texas. Ariel’s shoes also showcase the Mystics ‘DC’ logo and highlight her passion and desire to work with students through our Assist DC program with the phrase “Dream Big.”

Proceeds from the auction of Ariel Atkins’ cstom Nike Air Force 1 Shadows benefit College Track Ward 8 as part of the Washington Mystics’ Assist DC program, which works to equip first-generation students in Ward 8 with the tools to reach their potential through a 10-year commitment that systematically removes the barriers to college completion through comprehensive academic, financial and social-emotional programming.

Myisha Hines-Allen

About the design:

Myisha’s custom Nike Air Force 1s showcase the Washington D.C. skyline, the Mystics ‘DC’ logo, her No. 2 jersey, and features her passion & love of animals, including a depiction of her dog Ace on the left shoe. Not only is My tough on the court, but her advocacy for animal rights is also just as tough off the court.

Proceeds from the auction of Myisha Hines-Allen’s custom Nike Air Force 1s benefit the Humane Rescue Alliance, which protects animals, supports families, and advocates for positive change to create a world where all animals can thrive.

Natasha Cloud

About the design:

Natasha Cloud’s custom Converse Chuck 70s, which she will wear for arrivals on the Mystics’ July 30th ‘Stics & Kicks Sneakerhead Game vs. the Seattle Storm, feature Tash’s personal ‘Cloud 9’ logo, the Mystics ‘DC’ logo, and the city skylines of Washington, D.C. (where Tash plays) and Philadelphia (Tash’s hometown) while showcasing Tash’s passion toward ending gun violence and taking action. Tash’s shoes call out to “Protect Kids Not Guns” where the Wear Orange colors, the color hunters wear in the woods to protect themselves and others, which has come to symbolize the movement to end gun violence. 

Proceeds from the auction of Tash’s custom Converse Chuck 70s benefit Everytown For Gun Safety, the largest gun violence prevention organization in America fighting for the changes that will save lives.

Elena Delle Donne

About the design:

Elena Delle Donne’s custom Nike Air Force 1s, which she will wear for arrivals at the Mystics’ July 30th ‘Stics & Kicks Sneakerhead Game vs. the Seattle Storm, feature the two-time MVP’s name and number and are decorated in the colors of the Pride flag. EDD’s shoes share the message that “Love is Love” and include The Trevor Project’s 24/7 crisis line for those who need a counselor or just someone to talk to. 

Proceeds from Elena’s custom Nike Air Force 1s benefit The Trevor Project, the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) young people.
