TEAM UNDER ARMOUR

Roster: Satoshi Sutoh, Jonathan Guisbert, Ako Xiang and Set Peterson (CMF)

Today we were tasked to take our six concepts and refine those to three by tomorrow. For the UA team, that meant we had to begin thinking about how exactly our designs will work on feet. We taped up lasts and sneakers and started to sketch right on our models. This definitely helped us to visualize what our final design would look like. I also got some more feedback on my concepts and that helped a lot to know how to further explore my designs and some of the technology that I’m building in. So far, this experience has been extremely fun, but also an incredible amount of work. Two out of the past seven days, I’ve gone without sleep, but it’s all worth it. I think that’s something that most people underestimate about being a designer, or at least I did…there’s so much work that goes on behind the scenes and so many things you have to think about, every stitch counts. – Jonathan Guisbert

Making tape-up shoes really cost a lot of time, but it really help to understand the final features about the design. Finally find the heel area still needed to adjust. How to make both upper and bootie’s visual could combine together is really hard. Today I should work it out. – Ako Xiang.

I started to tape up a woman’s basketball sneaker, but before I began to sketch on it, I ran into another set of changes that I wanted to make to some of my sketches. So, I had to study the anatomy of the foot further before moving on to the tape up. Although this will force me to do some further exploration and will delay my process a bit, I think it’ll be worth it in the end and as long as I’m keeping to my overall timeline for the class, I should be fine. Looks like another long night tonight! – Jonathan Guisbert
