photo by Michael WaMC Jin: “These aren’t necessarily in my rotation, but when I think sneakers I think of these Dennis Rodmans. When they first came out, they kind of got mixed reviews. When I bought them and wore them to school, people would definitely say, “What are those?” because they definitely look outside of the box. The front looks like a cocoon, the shoe laces are on the side and they’re Dennis Rodman kicks. But the people that liked them loved them. I loved the design and thought they were very unique. They didn’t look like anything else when they came out. The pair I had was white and had navy blue and North Carolina blue. I remember because I used to always wear it with this Mecca jacket. This was almost 15 years ago in junior high. As I’ve got older, I can feel the sense of urgency in terms of staying up to date on the latest kicks has died down a bit. Becoming a father and having these other responsibilities has me not as intentionally into the sneaker game as back in the day, but just talking about it brings back memories.”
