USA Basketball is back, with training camp in full swing as the team prepares to defend the gold at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain. After Kevin Love and Blake Griffin pulled their names out of the running, the field is down to 20 players contending for 12 roster spots. A diverse pool of talent is represented in Sin City this week, as well as a variety of sneaker brands. Since Nike is the official equipment and apparel supplier of USA Basketball, the only place where the players are allowed to don their own personal logos is through their Kicks On Court.
Five different shoe brands are represented at training camp, including Nike, adidas, Jordan Brand, Under Armour, and Anta. Nike headliners Kevin Durant, James Harden, Paul George and Kyrie Irving lead the Swoosh push that includes 13 of the 20 participants, while Boost hits basketball on the feet of Three Stripes signature athletes Derrick Rose and Damian Lillard. The latest to join team Jumpman, Andre Drummond, reps Jordan Brand, while Stephen Curry is debuting a new Under Armour shoe and Chandler Parsons is doing the same for Anta. With USA familiars and Jordan Brand leaders Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook and Blake Griffin all sitting this summer out, Andre Drummond is carrying the torch for the Jumpman team all by himself. The most recent addition to the JB roster, the Detroit Pistons big man was a pleasant surprise last NBA season with his Kicks On Court, and continues his momentum to Vegas wearing a clean Player Edition version of the Air Jordan XX8 SE so far. If AD finds his name on the final roster, he will be the only player with the potential to break out an “Olympic” Air Jordan retro. Since he already laced the Air Jordan 6 “Olympic” this past season, here’s to Andre having a good showing at training camp.
