Whenever you merge two iconic entities, stellar results usually follow – unless you’re R. Kelly and Jay-Z. Nonetheless, this latest edition of Nice Kicks Throwback Thursday views the pairing of two American icons and that’s Bugs Bunny and Michael Jordan as we view the history of the “Hare” Air Jordan 7. Taking a peak at the silhouette itself and the notable figures rocking the model, this #TBT will certainly be all-inclusive.

Air Jordan 7
Before diving into the history of the “Hare” makeup, it’s important to understand the history of the Air Jordan 7 silhouette itself. For starters, coming off of his first NBA championship, Michael Jordan and designer Tinker Hatfield looked to create a sturdy and yet innovative model that correctly complimented MJ’s game. Taking cues from the Nike Huarache lineage, Hatfield designed a smooth toe-box with a Neoprene tongue tab and tribal-like accents throughout the model, as seen along the outsole and side panels.
In addition, the ankle collar closely resembles the Nike Mag, in which many people believe Tinker used as a muse as well. The Air Jordan 7 would employ many different color schemes, and arguably the most noteworthy being the Air Jordan 7 “Cardinal,” which many speculate to be the beginning of the “Christmas” color scheme craze.
“Hare” Air Jordan 7
Releasing back in 1992, the “Hare” Air Jordan 7 would be one of the more prominent “commemorative” makeups throughout the entire Air Jordan lineage. Comprising of distinct Bugs Bunny-like hues, the “Hare” model employs a light grey underlay with tonal hues of grey throughout the upper in the form of an overlay. In addition, accents of red, yellow and black are spotted along with Bugs Bunny imagery throughout and the traditional Air Jordan 7 detailing.
Along with the retail release of the “Hare” makeup, this brilliant commercial by noted marketing arm Wieden & Kennedy, would live in Air Jordan lore, as it marked the initial pairing of Bugs Bunny and Michael Jordan.
“Hare” Air Jordan 7 Retail Releases & Celebrity Sightings
As mentioned previously, the “Hare” Air Jordan 7 would hit retailers in 1992 and upon its release, Michael himself would don this makeup on a variety of occasions during games, such as contest against the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics. Over the course of time, several celebrities would be spotted in the inaugural makeup of the model, such as Will Smith who made an appearance on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” in a pair.
Going forward, by 2008, the “Hare” Air Jordan 7 would be apart of the CDP Pack and ultimately would draw rave reviews and additional celebrity sightings that included the likes of Jay-Z and Kanye West. However, the aforementioned Air Jordan doesn’t strictly provide style for those away from the court as Nate Robinson and Monta Ellis have all been spotted playing in the respective model.
