You’ve never seen a wider array of classic and contemporary sneakers in one place.

Basketball collided with the best of sneakers at our associate editor George Kiel’s first annual Kick & Roll Classic 3-on-3 Basketball Event this past Saturday, July 12th, at the Round Rock Sports Center in Austin, Texas. Although the event began at 1PM, a multitude of eager sneaker enthusiasts and basketball players alike gathered in front of the RRSC as early as 11:15 AM with duffle bags full of rare footwear to lace up on court. Upon stepping foot into the venue, players and fans were greeted by Kick & Roll team officials with gift bags (shirt, jersey, shorts, Colon Cancer Awareness wristbands and more) at the Check-In station. Following a quick change into their gear provided by Under Armour, participants began to warm up, as sponsors and partners, such as Rock ‘Em Apparel, Shoe MGK, Habitat for Humanity, KIND, BrandBlack and our Colon Cancer Awareness booth, began to set up for the action. At 1PM, games begun as attendees began to pile in at the Sports Center.

Players switched shoes consistently and engaged in lighthearted yet competitive games throughout the event as a sextet of Texas-based DJs – Dontizl, Hella Yella, Protege, Mike Swing, Rapid Ric and Louie Rocks – controlled the 1s and 2s. There was also an obstacle course going on outside for the kids and an NBA Live tournament happening in what Kick & Roll officials referred to as the “Gaming Lounge” sponsored by EA Sports. Plus, the Houston-based Sports Rapp Live show was taking place in their “Red Bull Recharge Lounge.”

Josh Childress, Kick & Roll’s title sponsor, was on hand – in addition to professional basketball player Chris Douglas-Roberts – to help with the judging of shoes for Kick & Roll’s award ceremony, which took place right before the championship game of the 19-Up bracket.

Over 500 people were in the building for the event, and 38% of the attendees received a face-to-face education about Colon Cancer Awareness at their booth on site. Be on the lookout for info regarding the second annual Kick & Roll Classic.
