There’s been lot of chatter surrounding the Nike Cortez as of late and its seeming inability to surge ahead of other retros in its category. And while those reports are largely slighted and only tell one part of the story, it appears that Nike is taking greater efforts to restore the model’s prestige. They’ve enlisted Kendrick Lamar to help.

Last night Kung Fu Kenny revealed a collaborative Cortez at the Staples Center, in attendance to watch the Lakers retire Kobe Bryant’s jerseys. The shoe odes to Lamar’s nickname with Chinese letters embroidered at the forefoot while a ribbon across the tongue reads “Don’t Trip.” Red, white and black color blocking easily odes to the model’s left coast sensibilities and its collaborative namesake.

Grab a closer look at the Kendrick Lamar x Nike Cortez “Don’t Trip” below and stay tuned for more details.
