Fairness surrounding hyped sneaker releases is always a cause of concern for those competing for said shoes. It’s a methodology brands and retailers have attempted to master for years now. The truth of the matter is that fair, in tangible terms, is almost impossible to simplify in these instances. But can’t it at least be fun?

Madrid-based Foot District is on the fast track to nailing both.

Earlier this week, for the release of the highly anticipated Nike Air Max 1 “Anniversary,” the shop essentially gamified the raffle process by implementing a slot machine into the fold. Here’s how it worked: 100 raffle tickets were distributed to all potential buyers. Each customer competed for their respective size by attempting to get the highest score with a pull from the slot machine. The winner is then granted rights to purchase a pair in their size. Pretty cool, no? And far more fun than simply striking out on the couch or driving to the shop only to not have your name called or number pulled.
