A little over a year ago, the Air Jordan XX8 was introduced to the world. Designed with advanced performance in mind, Jordan Brand created one of their most polarizing, and powerful, silhouettes to date. The look of the Air Jordan XX8 is tremendously different from anything previously seen from Jordan Brand, and the shoe’s most noticeably different feature is the stretch synthetic, Schoeller mesh-infused exterior shroud. Worn regularly by NBA superstars Ray Allen and Russell Westbrook, the Air Jordan XX8 has had a great run. With the unveiling of the Air Jordan XX9 scheduled for tomorrow, we wanted to spotlight the ingenious signature’s retail run. Look through our synopsis of the Air Jordan XX8 at retail, and let us know which colorway strikes your fancy by casting your vote in the poll on the last page.
Air Jordan XX8
The Air Jordan XX8 is the first Jordan Brand in-line sneaker to go back to the Roman/Arabic models since the Air Jordan XX3 of the Jordan Brand line. Russell Westbrook was the first player to wear the Air Jordan 28 in game. Westbrook rocked the AJ 28 against the Brooklyn Nets on December 4, 2012. The Air Jordan 28 will release to the public on February 15 and 16, 2013 during All-Star Weekend with a $250 price tag. Known for their off-court appeal, Jordan Brand stepped up their game by putting the latest Jumpman signature, the Air Jordan XX8 SE, on duty for “Award Season” with a duo of PEs. Gifted to members of Team Jordan, the special occasion sneaker went for a complementary aesthetic, as performance meets sophistication via predominantly white and black silos livened up with metallic gold accents and branding. An ice blue translucent outsole traces the tandem’s bottoms, which are also touched up with gold speckles. No word yet on whether these Jordan XX8 SEs will ever be released, so in the meantime, hit up the comments section with your thoughts and stay tuned to Nice Kicks for updates.
And just like that, the Air Jordan XX8 continues to tally up its colorway count. Adding another notch to its belt with the official unveiling of the “Bamboo,” the shrouded upper of the silhouette has been quite the consummate canvas for artistic inspiration. An ode to the Big Easy, the newest XX8 color scheme comes as part of the Crescent City Gold Collection, donning an all-white perforated upper and bamboo heel counter. With the XX8 getting its start at the 2013 NBA All-Star Weekend, the model has come a long way in a year. Do you plan on picking up the “Bamboo” XX8? Hit up Jordan and/or Footaction on February 16th to grab a pair while supplies last.
A year after its debut, and the Air Jordan XX8 is showing no signs of slowing down as the “Bamboo” colorway has been unveiled and given a release date. Seemingly offsetting the first XX8 to drop, the “Bamboo” opts for an all-white makeup, save for carbon fiber heel counter plates switched out in favor of the title wood. The Flight Plate is kept intact, matching the shoe’s contrasting black insides, with the box completing the theme. Set for an unorthodox Sunday release, the “Bamboo” Jordan XX8 will be available at select Jordan retailers, including Foot Locker, on February 16 for $250.
Lakers point guard and Jordan Brand athlete Kendall Marshall adds #teamearly to his list of affiliations with a new shoe shipment. In the Vine posted above, K Butter unboxes the likes of the Air Jordan 10 “Powder Blue,” Air Jordan 6 White/Infrared, Air Jordan 1 KO “UNC” and “Georgetown,” Air Jordan 3 “Infrared 23″ and Air Jordan XX8 “Bamboo.” Of all the kicks sent to Kendall, which pair are you most excited for? Let us know in the comment section.
Nearly a year after its debut, the Air Jordan XX8 is still on a tear, passing the baton to the XX8 SE. De-shrouded, the re-imagined signature is revisited in time for a springtime set. Drawing from mainstay Jordan colorways, “Cool Grey” and Black/Red versions of the refined performance sneaker are the way, in addition to a “Powder Blue” rendition of recent popularity. The trio is set to land at Jordan Brand retailers, including Nike.com and Finish Line, on February 1st, retailing for $150 each.
