Introducing the Jordan Melo M5
If there was one word to describe Carmelo Anthony’s fifth signature shoe, the Jordan Melo M5, it would be versatility. The shoe carries on Jordan Brand’s tradition of honoring an athlete’s excellence through the shoe’s design and performance. Known for his quickness, power, and agility, the international superstar has proven his ability to play every position on the court.
Right out of the box, the Jordan Melo M5 is tuned for a high performance game on the hardwood. By analyzing the needs of athletes from a range of different sports D’Wayne Edwards, Footwear Design Director of Jordan Brand, designed a shoe that Melo could play all five positions on the court. At just 15 ounces, the Jordan Melo M5’s light weight body allows Melo to glide through defenders like a point-guard; the forefoot flex grooves provide flexibility for a shooting guard; the superior fit combined with heel and forefoot Zoom Air cushioning is great for a small or power forward; and the medial and lateral outsole wraps up the sides to provide improved support for Melo to post up down low. Similar to the BMW sportscar that shares the same model name, M5, the Jordan Melo M5 is as unique for its design as is its high tuned performance. The Melo M5 borrows design cues from a number of Carmelo Anthony’s favorite Air Jordans to honor the historic 23rd anniversary of the franchise. The Air Jordan 6 lent inspiration for the heel tab; the Air Jordan 11 was a design cue for the curved toe and presence of patent leather; the Air Jordan 15 provided inspiration for the heel; and the Air Jordan XX3 was represented by the upper from a number of cues. Look for the Jordan Melo M5 to release nationwide in stores on Saturday, November 22nd with a retail price of $125. I didn’t think there was any possible way that Dwayne Edwards could follow up to the M4 with something better, but I was def wrong. I am probably going to put this at #2 for the best Melo sneakers of all time.
1) Jordan Melo 5.5
2) Jordan Melo 5
3) Jordan Melo 4
4) Jordan Melo 3
5) Jordan Melo 1.5

WOW! I saw some decent pics of Melo wearing them from the KICKS ON COURT that Nice Kicks does, but after seeing these pics I gotta grab them.
For me, retros are great, but I have them all. Time to get something new the is going to drive the brand’s future.
Comment by sneakFREAK — November 4, 2008 @ 4:45 pm
is this the first all black high top for Melo? I honestly can’t remember, but eitherway these are straight FIRE!
I like that D’Wayne took *inspiration* from different elements of past Jordan shoes and didn’t just copy/paste them on like a fusion or spizike. I am copping these for sure.
Melo M5 > Lebron VI

A very nice shoe if you ask me. For $125, I would much rather have these than the $140 Lebron VI.

I really like these. I have not been a fan of the Melo spin offs from Jordan brand. But this shoe has elements of the 17, dub zero, little bit of the 13’s and the 15’s. I’d be interested in seeing more of this shoe.
