Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank talks to Kemba Walker, Lindsey Vonn and Tom Brady about the Spine

Nice Kicks: In your opinion, what are the strongest characteristics of wearing the Spine?

Tom Brady: Kevin Plank gave me these shoes months ago, and it’s the only thing I wear. During the off-season, I wore the Spine to do all types of training. When you have the right products on and you feel good about what you’re wearing, you’re going to perform at your best. It’s extremely comfortable, and I wear it even when I’m not training. After wearing them, my feet feel good at the end of the day because of the cushioning. It’s really a great product.

Nice Kicks: You mentioned that you’re currently training in the Under Armour Spine during the summer. How does the Spine, a low-top, 9.7 ounce shoe, aid your style of play?

Kemba Walker: The Spine has been perfect for me and my training because it’s extremely light and it supports the way I play. I cut and make a lot of different moves on the court, so it helps me a lot with that because it’s so flexible. It’s a sneaker that you can really, really move in. It’s been really great for me.

Nice Kicks: Could you see yourself actually playing competitive games in the Spine?

Kemba Walker: The Under Armour guys will actually incorporate some of this technology in my upcoming basketball stuff, so yeah, you can play on the court in these. Right now, I train in the Spine on and off the court. Everyone wants an extremely light shoe on the court, and the Spine is one of the lightest shoes ever. I look forward to using the technology on court next season.

Nice Kicks: How does the spine aid your type of training in regards to ski racing and how does it? differ from other running/training shoes you’ve worn in the past?

Lindsey Vonn: When I’m training for skating, running or doing agility workouts, I never take the Spine off. With most running shoes, you can’t really use them for anything other than running, but the Spine can be worn while doing just about anything. It has actual lateral support and a great amount of cushioning that doesn’t wear out. The cushioning on a lot of shoes out there go flat after a couple of weeks, but the Spine’s cushioning doesn’t wear out. I’ve worn them for a while now, and the cushioning doesn’t give.
