Though it wasn’t until the X-Games in the mid 90’s that skateboarding took off like a rocket with practically every other kid in the suburbs, some of the most defining moments of the lifestyle and culture came in the decade prior. 1987 was the year that one of the most memorable images of skate came about with the “Screaming Hand” logo that was designed for Santa Cruz Skateboards by Jim Phillips. This image has become cross-cultural making its way into graffiti art, tattoos, and even vinyl toys. In fact, original sketches by Phillips of the “Screaming Hand” sell for several thousand dollars.

Puma and Santa Cruz came together to celebrate this epic image of 1987 in the form of a Puma First Round which debuted in ’87 as well. One of the most common misconceptions is that the First Round debuted with or soon after the Puma Basket – which it did not. In 1987 Puma created it as a high top version of the Basket, but the flat sole, high cut, and padded collar made it an instant hit in the skate scene.

The shoe comes with 4 sets of laces and matching T shirts were cooked up by Puma and Santa Cruz as well. A release date has not yet been slated for this collection. Info and photos thanks to Hype Beast.
