Through years of trial and tribulation, Nick Sisombath and Richie Le are able to look fondly at their achievements within sneaker culture: one through the recent success of an Italian sneaker company and the latter through streetwear content production. However, it was only six years ago that the two entrepreneurs were hustling for every cent to fund their creative endeavors. The release of the Richie Le Collection “RLC” x Collegium Pillar Destroyer High brings the story of two Asian-founded businesses full-circle, touching on their past while also hinting at their future.

For Sisombath and Le, the founders of Collegium and RLC, this upcoming effort represents the story of entrepreneurial hustle. And as with most entrepreneurial successes, there are select moments that comprise their humble beginnings.

Retail employment at Nordstrom laid the foundation for both to fund their ambitions. It was there that Sisombath and Le directed and advised consumers about fashion pieces, simultaneously dreaming of seeing their own products on those very shelves. Half a decade later, the two have accomplished a long-time dream with their collaborative sneaker set to release exclusively at their own stomping grounds.

Perhaps their shared Nordstrom experiences have partially resulted in a great relationship between the business owners. As their relationship solidified, so did ideas of a collaborative collection. It was only a matter of time before early sketches would come into fruition.

Together with RLC co-founder Tan Tang, the trio sourced hundreds of materials to create their most dynamic project yet. Multiple variations of black hues can be seen across the multi-material upper. Even from first glance, one can only be surprised at the attention to detail placed atop the pristine leather, suede, and nylon ripstop. Jet-black laces and a vintage colored outsole complete a winter-ready design.

Like every Collegium sneaker, the collaborative effort was hand-made in Italy at the same Italian houses as the world’s most famed designer brands. Moreover, the pair features a Margom ensuring a comfortable and durable ride. It’s such characteristics that distinguish the pair from others on the market, and give both businesses a reason to be proud of their lengthy journeys. Look for the RLC x Collegium Pillar Destroyer High to release exclusively through select Nordstrom locations on August 20 for $250.
