Nike Air Tech Challenge 2 “Hot Lava” Returns In 2024

Andre Agassi’s Nike Air Tech Challenge 2 “Hot Lava” is returning for its 24th anniversary in Fall 2024, according to Sneaker Files.

The shoe originally debuted in 1990 and was worn by the legendary tennis star. The shoe would release for the first time in 2008 and was rereleased in 2014. Five years later, in 2019, the colorway released again but in limited quantities. The shoe will get the retro treatment for the fourth time this upcoming fall.

Not only was the Nike Air Tech Challenge 2 praised highly thanks to Agassi, the shoe’s design and paint-splatter aesthetic captured the essence of the 90s and hat many refer to as the golden era of footwear, specifically Nike. The Air Tech Challenge 2 featured a synthetic leather upper that provided further reinforcement, as well as incorporating a Nike Air unit and an extra molded heel counter.

The influence of the the Air Tech Challenge 2 design and the “Hot Lava” colorway can be found throughout sneaker culture from the creation of the Nike Air Yeezy 2 to LeBron James’ Nike LeBron 16 “Air Tech” colorway.

The Nike Air Tech Challenge 2 “Hot Lava” releases in Fall 2024 via Nike.com and select retailers. A price point has not been disclosed.
