The 1996 Atlanta Olympics were special for a multitude of reasons. There was both tragedy (Centennial Olympic Park bombing) and triumph, but ultimately, betterment prevailed in the face of opposition.
Where sneakers are concerned, though, much of the nostalgia regarding the ’96 games surround Scottie Pippen and his Air More Uptempo. Yet, the often underrated Nike Air Max BW “Olympic” also played a starring role that year.
Thus, in honor of the 2016 games, the famed Air Max is set to return on July 7.
Changes to the modern iteration are subtle at best. From what we can tell, this version is a bit slimmed at the tongue and the flag that once graced the heel is removed.
