New Balance Reconsidered aims to eliminate waste and reward customers.
New Balance is entering the resale game as the Boston-based brand has announced the New Balance Reconsidered program.
In an effort to combat more waste pouring into landfills and extend the shelf life of sneakers, New Balance Reconsidered allows customers to trade-in their pairs which are then cleaned, graded and sold through the Reconsidered platform. Those who trade in a pair are given credit based on the condition grade of the shoe.
All products are inspected by Tersus Solutions, which uses a waterless cleaning technology and textile reclamation solutions for apparel and footwear, and are cleaned as needed.?
John Stokes, director of sustainability at New Balance, acknowledged in a statement that the footwear industry has a “significant environmental impact,” including too many products ending up in a landfill. ““There are many things that have to shift,” New Balance Director of Sustainability John Stokes said in relation to the industry’s environmental impact. “Launching Reconsidered is one piece of the puzzle with a program objective to help extend product life for some of our product and get the most from what is already made.”
New Balance Reconsidered is live now and available to U.S. customers at NewBalanceReconsidered.com. The in-store trade-in program will be in beta mode at eight retail locations before expanding nationwide in 2024.
