Before the recent change in uniform supplier, the MLB only allowed umpires to wear New Balance affiliated sneakers. When the above contract coming to an end, Nike swooped in to become the primary supplier of MLB wear. This has resulted in a recent change of umpires experimenting with their on-turf footwear, many of which have been have been your average kicks.
Slowly but surely, umpires around the Major League are rocking high-profile sneakers. Jordans are being seen around the league, particularly pairs like the Air Jordan 11 “Jubilee.” One umpire, Jordan Baker, was seen wearing the pair at Angels Stadium. The ensuing positive response has demonstrated how footwear is making baseball more exciting.
