There’s very little doubt that in this often cluttered, hype-favored sneaker space, Converse has risen above the muck and won out with the growing success of its Chuck 70. Originally released back in 2013 and now at the height of its powers five years later, its mounting success is registered through sales, visibility and, of course, collaboration.
Shawn Yue’s MADNESS has approached its Chuck 70 High release by both traditional and unorthodox methodology. They’ve colored the shoe in a vibrant royal blue hue that entices the eye. Then to even greater effect, a hairy suede boldly marks the lateral paneling whereas a foundational canvas construction holds court at the medial siding. This juxtaposition isn’t completely new to the Chuck 70 but the contrast in these materials orbits revelatory — as did their Chuck 70 Low collaboration back in January.
