Jordan Brand is focusing on two unique elements of their brand DNA this summer: its penchant to implement University Blue coloring in much of its collections, and its history for premium craftsmanship that extends over a lengthy history. Both those elements shine today as they debut select summer 2017 releases.
Largely featuring Lows – as one would expect with summer in mind – the standout of the grouping is the Air Jordan 11 Low “University Blue.” Releasing for the first time since 2001, the smooth University Blue patent leather upper odes to MJ’s championship glory at North Carolina. We’ll also see the release of the “Baron” 11 Lows, inspired by Jordan’s time in Birmingham playing baseball with the team of the same name following his first retirement from basketball.
Both the Air Jordan 13 Low “Chutney” and “Navy” return from the depths of 1998. Each of these OG colorways are restored with modern sensibilities without taking from their nostalgic essence. Additionally, the Air Jordan 7 will post an interesting showing this summer emerging in a University Blue colorway that was first seen at the World Basketball Festival in 2010. Next season will be the styles first run at retail.
Another premium Air Jordan 5 also launches this summer slightly trailing its “Take Flight” counterpart in olive earlier this year. This monotone Pure Platinum edition highlights leather woven detailing and an overall progressive approach to the 1990-produced silhouette.
Lastly, the Air Jordan 1 High Deconstructed returns in University Blue and Pink to celebrate premium craftsmanship and the pastels that make both spring/summer a time to experiment with color as well as lightweight construction.
