Gridiron Kicks Spotlight // 1-on-1 with 49ers Running Back Carlos Hyde

Carlos Hyde is no stranger to the spotlight. After a decorated tenure at Ohio State University, Hyde would go on to be drafted by one of the NFL’s most storied franchises in the San Francisco 49ers. With Hyde drawing praise from the likes of LeBron James and some of the NFL’s most elite, it’s easy to see why the ‘Niners feel as though their backfield is in good hands with this bruising back from Ohio.

As Hyde is set to enter his second season in the league, expectations are rather high as his aforementioned success has defensive coordinators devising schemes to stop him. However, aside from his on-field prowess, it was his array of sneakers that caught our eye as I recently caught up with Hyde to discuss all things sneakers.

Nice Kicks: How has life been as an adidas athlete?

Carlos Hyde: Life is great as an adidas athlete. These guys take really good care of me and help me out with anything I may need. They really stay on top of everything so it’s been great.

Nice Kicks: How has you sneaker collection changed since you’ve gotten into the NFL?

Carlos Hyde: I have some Yeezy in my collection now! I always wanted some Yeezys, so now I have the ability to get any pair that is set to come out. I have two pairs now, so I’m looking forward to getting some more for sure.

Nice Kicks: Was it tough getting your hands on a pair of Yeezys?

Carlos Hyde: Nah, not at all. When you’re an adidas athlete it’s pretty easy to get the Yeezys because adidas is one big family.

Nice Kicks: Which model is your favorite out of the two adidas Yeezy releases this year?

Carlos Hyde: Definitely the 350 Boost.

Nice Kicks: I noticed you really enjoy the adidas SL Loop, what makes that a personal favorite of yours?

Carlos Hyde: Man, the shoe is just really comfortable. You can just throw the shoe on and head out or you can get a little fly with it. I like it a lot because it feels good on my feet and they come in dope colors.

Nice Kicks: What are some other kicks you’re enjoying at the moment?

Carlos Hyde: I love the Jeremy Scotts. He’s so creative and has a different type of vibe. I really enjoy the adidas JS Wings.

Nice Kicks: What are some of your on the field choices when it comes to selecting kicks?

Carlos Hyde: I have a wide foot, so I’m all for picking a cleat that has a wide frame to it and that is also light. They just came out with the adidas Freak x Kevlar cleat and it’s like a hybrid because it’s light and has a wider frame to it. So, I’m definitely excited – it’s a great cleat for me.

Nice Kicks: In regards to your cleats, are you getting flashy at all this season or sticking with the traditional ‘Niners colors?

Carlos Hyde: I’m trying to get an all-red cleat and an all-gold one. Hopefully I can make that happen. I may have to go to a custom artist for that one.

Nice Kicks: Lastly, you come from Ohio State where there are a lot of sneakerheads, and since being drafted to San Francisco you’ve been teammates with a few notable sneakerheads as well. During your time with both, who has the better sneakerheads?

Carlos Hyde: I’m going to say Ohio State! My boy Braxton Miller, my boy Mike Thomas and Bradley Roby all had heat during my time there.
