To start the 2010 baseball season with a bang, MLB Commissioner Bud Selig scheduled heated rivals the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees against each other at historic Fenway Park. Though Jordan formally introduced the Jeter Throwback to the media in sneaker form recently, last night’s game marked the 2010 debut of the cleated version, which he flew under the radar with in the last season’s World Series. Jordan athlete CC Sabathia, a pitcher for the Yankees, broke out two different pairs of special Air Jordans for the game. Sporting both an Air Jordan IV and a cleated version of the grail-to-many “Cool Grey” Air Jordan 11s, which he has worn on the mound before, Sabathia put up a solid performance in a losing effort.
We’ve seen numerous Jordans make their way the football fields of the NFL, and numerous MLB athletes have worn special Jordans for years. With the versatile design of the classic MJ signatures and other sneakers, it’s no surprise that cleats can so easily replace the court-ready soles we’re used to seeing.
