Focus: To raise awareness for breast cancer.

Overview: Two years ago, Nike has teamed up with Kay Yow Cancer Fund to release a series of pink-colored Nike products to raise money for the fight against breast cancer. Kay Yow, the former women’s basketball coach for North Carolina State, passed away in January of 2009, after a long fight with breast cancer. In 2007, the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund was instituted by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and the V Foundation for Cancer Research, of which she served on the board of directors. Since Nike’s partnership with the fund, special edition sneakers, along with other forms of apparel, have been released to create revenue for the aforementioned cause. Many athletes in various sports have shown their support for this partnership by wearing “Think Pink” sneakers, wristbands and arm sleeves, especially during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
