The holiday season is upon us once again, which means brands are starting to push out an assortment of renditions inspired by the festivities. This release however, could very well be one of the top Christmas themed releases that nobody has mentioned. Inspired by National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, ASICS Tiger has certainly found the Christmas spirit this year with their elaborate storytelling behind their latest GEL-Lyte III and GEL-Lyte V styles.
The GEL-Lyte III features a color scheme that alludes to the classic scene of Cousin Eddie dressed in only his boots and bathrobe, smoking a cigar and drinking a beer while emptying the family RV’s sewage tank into the street. The textured suede paneling mirrors the French terry robe that Eddie is wearing, while the green is significant to the color of his hat. And obviously, the orange hose is carried over to the accent of the back of the outsole.
Further paying homage to this movie’s nostalgia is the makeup of the GEL-Lyte V, referencing Clark Griswold’s look while decorating the family home, featuring green and blue accents to reference Clark’s jacket, while the wool represents the sweater he’s wearing. The Orange ASICS logo on the tongue references his script Chicago Bears cap, while the hits of tan suede represents his gloves. Lastly, a 3M speckled midsole is an ode to the grand finale when Clark finally gets all 250,000 light bulbs to brighten to entire block.
In the holiday spirit? Pairs are expected to hit ASICS Tiger this weekend.
