Why the Air Jordan 5 “Inspire” is a Solid Ringer for the Famed Fab 5 PE

Back in 2017, Jordan Brand created the Air Jordan 5 “Fab Five” as an homage to the famed University of Michigan freshman class and a celebration of the new union between JB and U of M.

An unreleased exclusive, the maize AJ5 featured nods to both The Victors and the culture-shifting squad.

The shoe was a pleaser, though not without some controversy as pairs were seeded to the likes of DJ Khaled and Mark Wahlberg but not, say, the actual Fab Five leader, Jalen Rose.

Making good to the masses, Jordan Brand will be releasing a U of M football-inspired Air Jordan 5 “Michigan” that will be dubbed “Inspire” by the brand.

Slightly different from the Fab 5 PE, this pair lacks some of the school-specific personalization seen on its former but might be better in regards to color blocking. In many ways, this is similar to when Jordan Brand gifted Public School x Air Jordan 12s to the team then dropped a GR rendition later on.

This pair also packs a nod to Nike’s ’90s collegiate apparel tagging and OG Jumpman branding as seen on the heel.
