Following the introduction of its first-ever fully recyclable running shoe and the ingenious Futurecraft STRUNG earlier this year, adidas Originals is reading a 100% sustainable Stan Smith model for 2021.

Next year will mark the perfect time to release the new eco-friendly variant of the classic sneaker as the Stan Smith will celebrate its 50th anniversary. The fan-favorite silhouette, of course, inherited its name from American tennis player Stan Smith, who helped to produce the now iconic sneaker.

The fully sustainable adidas Stan Smith will be produced out of 100% eco-conscious materials moving forward. Instead of its leather and virgin polyester construction, the label will use recycled polyester, along with a premium PU coating sourced from Japan. The result will feel just like real leather. Rounding out the earth-friendly iteration will be outsoles made from recycled rubber and a lacing system crafted from high-performance recycled materials.

The new eco-friendly model will debut in its original white and green color scheme, with the former hue dressing the majority of the sneaker from its upper, inner liner, tongue, and laces, while the latter tone helps to add a contrasting look on the heel and tongue tab branding. Final details include the gold embossed “Stan Smith” on the mid-panel, a drawing of Smith himself on the tongue, and adidas’s Trefoil logo on the back. This all sits atop an off-white midsole.

Although no official release date has been announced as of yet, adidas’s fully sustainable Stan Smith is expected to arrive sometime in 2021. Keep it locked here.
