Nike is Bringing Back Kevin Garnett’s Best Signature Shoe

Kevin Garnett‘s return to the Minnesota Timberwolves last year was one filled with sentiment and history. He’d been the best player in franchise history, while also being one of the best high school players to jump straight to the league not only in general, but to an expansion team.

Early in his career, before later switching to AND1, adidas, and then a lesser known, overseas brand, ANTA, Garnett was a signature athlete with Nike Basketball. And during that run, just after Jordan’s retirement and before Kobe left adidas in 2002, KG was an influential signature athlete alongside Penny Hardaway, Gary Payton and others.

Following the success of early signatures, the Nike Air Garnett 3 peaked in terms of popularity. Featuring the Tuned Air cushioning alongside tumbled leather and a sleek mesh infusion, the shoe released in 1999 which was an All-Star year for Garnett. This also happened to be the first year in Timberwolves history the team finished with a winning record. KG was also the center of triumphant advertisements and commercials.

All that said – even though KG isn’t with the Swoosh to endorse this Nike retro – the return of the Nike Garnett 3 makes a great deal of sense and couldn’t come at a better time. Unfortunately, the shoe won’t retain its OG moniker, and will be more officially titled the Nike Air LE 3. Adorning its most revered colorway as part of its second re-release, check out the Nike Air LE 3 below and stay tuned for more details on this excitable new Nike Basketball bringback.
