Centered around Social Status‘ “community first” ethos, Social Status will offer customers the option to not only access a pair of the Social Status x Nike Air Max Penny 1 “Recess” for themselves but also enter the information of a person in need and/or organization providing support to families for Back to School they would like to donate a pair to, starting on July 22, 2022, at SocialStatusPGH.com in both the “Black” and “Desert Sand” colorways.
The Social Status “Pay-it-Forward” launch highlights the pressures on parents & families in need ahead of the return to school, especially during these challenging times. Back to School is a time when the most vulnerable families are challenged to make hard decisions.
The “Pay-it-Forward” launch provides the sneaker community to take action & support parents, families and youth in need in their cities and neighborhoods who would benefit from the additional help of the footwear, as well as organizations doing the work in supporting those most at risk. Customers without any person or any organization to donate a pair to can elect to have the Whitaker Project team select an organization of their choice to support.
I remember Christmas and back to school being the worst times of the year — just having nothing, with the hope of excitement of something new but nothing to come.
It is a demoralizing feeling, especially as the effects of the economic climate begin to affect families deeply at a time of already dire need.
We’ve all seen the stats and understand the pressures of back to school on households. We can’t stand idle when we know the collective power of community as a change agent — this is less about sneakers, it’s about enabling this commmunity to show up and help those most at-risk at a time when it can help them focus on what matters most: their education.
