3.) adidas Consortium Tubular

BF: The Consortium Tubular, the off white one in a cream, I like that shoe a lot. It’s a really clever spin on that ZX family. The use of materials on it are smart, and that croc kind of appears in the heel. I like that they’re using a true, off-tone suede too. That suede is super nice. Good shoe, super comfortable, and easy to get dirty though. [laughs]

NDP: So that was one of the models that I was gonna be mad if they weren’t on your list. I had just the straight Black / White Tubular, and wore those most of November and then all of December and January. And they’re just worked now, so I got a new pair of the version that has the black eyestay clip, and am onto my second pair now. I’m just a huge fan of that model in general.

BF: I also like the fact that on that shoe, it’s kind of like the Stans. There was an in-line shoe that was just a pure color play, and then the Consortium one was just a little different, and everything was spec’d up on it in terms of materials. At a distance, they feel similar, but then when you get close, you really get to see the difference in finish and quality. As a brand, that’s something that we do really well.

NDP: One of the first things that I noticed on the Consortium pairs was how they didn’t have the leather strip along the top of the tongue. I actually cut off the strip on both of my GR pairs, so it’s kind of got that faux-Consortium look to it. [laughs]

BF: Really Nick? I never thought you slummed it with the GRs! [laughs]

NDP: Even though it was a general release, that was one of my favorite shoes of all of 2014. That shoe is great.

BF: It’s definitely a super strong shoe.
