While most companies have tried to jump on the skate bandwagon, Vans has been making skate shoes since 1966. Back then Paul Van Doren and partners, established the Van Doren Rubber Company in Southern California. The shoes were produced in store, and continued to be manufactured in the USA until 2007.

As a pioneer in the action sports culture, Vans has gone on to big things, from skateboarding, to BMX, to Surfing events, moto-x and beyond. Even one of the most popular music tours of the late 90’s, the Vans Warped Tour, was combined with skateboarding. Now days it features sometimes over 100 bands and a huge extreme sports festival as well.

In recent years they have started the Vans Syndicate line which has been more artist focused, Pro-tec, protective gear for a number of action sports, and opened up the Vans Vault on their website which has created more opportunity for collaborations with other companies as well as artists and designers from around the world.

Staying true to their skateboard roots, they have opened skateparks in both Orange, California and Orlando, Florida.

Their skate shoes have become iconic from the laceless Slip-on, to the Sk8 Hi, the Steve Caballero signature Half Cab, which celebrates 20 years this year. Vans is truly the originator of skate shoes.
