After meeting in an UberPool ride in 2015, Remington Guest and Heather Haber launched Advisory Board Crystals, a premium lifestyle apparel brand that’s caught the attention of Kith, Moncler, and New Era, amongst other industry leaders. Now, for the first time ever, Advisory Board Crystals (Abc.) breaks into the world of footwear with the release of its very own Vans Evdnt Ext Ulti.
The LA-based label started working on the Advisory Board Crystals x Vans Evdnt Ext Ulti in 2019, just before the COVID-19 pandemic began and changed the course of the world as we knew it. The sneaker was initially planned to release in 2021, but pandemic, paired with the sneaker’s inherent design challenges, resulted in the forthcoming August 2023 release date.
As first time sneaker designers, Guest and Haber were adamant about creating a sneaker that was truly original and not just a color swap. The duo worked deliberately (and virtually) with Vans throughout the course of the pandemic to construct a grandiose sneaker loaded with detail.
They were able to develop custom components that are best illustrated by the sneaker’s 3D Swarovski eyelets, iridescent overlays, and holographic badges on the heel counter. The sneaker has a geode-inspired aesthetic with an earth-toned upper and crystal finishes made to look like fire opal. Finishing details include signature pull tabs, a semi-transparent midsole, and a custom Abc. lace lock that connects to the dubrae.
