The UA Flow Synchronicity Makes History as Under Armour’s First Running Shoe Made on a Women’s Last

Under Armour launches the brand new UA Flow Synchronicity, a sneaker designed by women, for women. Using expert insights from Under Armour’s female athletes, an all-women UA design team was able to build an entirely new running shoe using a women’s last.

While creating the UA Flow Synchronicity was an extensive process that integrated data and consumer insights, the UA design team knew that they wanted to build a sneaker that was holistic and multi-layered. In the past women’s running shoes were often left as a second thought as brands would take a running shoe designed for men and shrink the shoe to fit the female foot. As a result, women’s running shoes were left with the lack of flexibility, a generic fit, and minimal arch support. The UA Flow Synchronicity zeros in on these shortcomings to create a sneaker that compliments the anatomy of a female foot.

Research revealed that the heel, the arch, and the midfoot heights are the biggest differences between females and their male counterparts. 3D scans allowed for a scientific understanding of how the different foot structures would react to the various prototypes, which helped refine the design process. The biomechanics, foot shape, proportions, contours, and sensitivities of the foot were all taken into account before deciding on the final design.

The UA Flow Synchronicity uses Under Armour’s award-winning UA Flow technology to create a running shoe that lightweight. The sneaker was designed to complement the natural shape of a woman’s foot by focusing on securing the heel and supporting the arch. The upper is crafted with a flexible micro knit that moves with every stride. The design is tailored for the cushioning women need and provides immediate comfort to enhance the running experience.
