Throwback Thursday: A Tale of Two Retros

Once upon a time the thought of bringing back an old Jordan shoe made little to no sense. ?It was tried and did not go over well with the market. ?Yes, with Nike Air logos and all, the Air Jordan III retro of 1994 was far from successful with pairs hitting clearance dealers and sales racks as low as the price of a T-shirt.

Alot changed in 6 years with the bring back of the Air Jordan 11. ?For a shoe that was returning just 4 years after its initial release, anticipation and excitement would be understating the?environment?for the release of the 2000 retro Air Jordan XI “Concords”. ?Thankfully for the sake of all consumers and for Jordan Brand, this release and many others in the early days of the second coming of retro Jordans was successful enough to continue the program.

Today, the confirmations of both the Black/Cement Air Jordan 3 and “Concord” Air Jordan 11 for a 2011 set twitter feeds and Facebook walls ablaze. ?While we might just be in the first month of 2011, it would be pretty fair to say that both of these bring backs will be celebrated in many top ten lists for the year.

Below are photos of the first retro of each – the 1994 edition of the Black/Cement Air Jordan III, and the 2000 “Concord” Air Jordan XI. ?Two shoes that were?received?completely different, but today are regarded as some of the best of all time.
