Yesterday the world celebrated International Women’s Day, but the festivities continue as the entirety of March is Women’s History Month. To celebrate, professional skateboarder Lizzie Armanto is releasing her first ever signature sneaker, “The Lizzie” by Vans. This brand new silhouette adds to Lizzie’s long list of trailblazing accomplishments, which include competing at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and being the first female skater in years to be featured on the cover of Thrasher.
“The Lizzie” is Vans’ first signature skateboarding shoe designed by a woman in 20 years. Armanto worked with Vans to create a better fit for a wider range of skaters. The Lizzie offers all of the technical features that a skater would hope to find in a sneaker such as vulcanized construction with EcoCush, 3D Embossed DURACAP in high-wear areas, micro-waffle tread, and Sick-Stick rubber for maximum grip. The all-new silhouette has lower profile sidewall foxing tape, an exposed radiused outsole edge, and flex grooves for a stable, broken-in feel. For the sneaker’s inaugural launch, The Lizzie will be released alongside a full apparel collection that includes a bucket hat, chinos, socks, and more.
The environment is really important to Armanto, so she designed “The Lizzie” with the planet in mind. The sneaker adheres to strict footwear textile guidelines that ensure more responsible production practices. With materials like organic cotton, natural rubber and biobased foam, The Lizzie meets the expectations for Vans’ VR3 Checkerboard Globe designation which works to reduce the brand’s carbon footprint.
