While much is made of the negativity and social injustices that sometimes come about involving sneakers, it’s always commendable when sneakers are used as means of positivity and social justice. In recent years, Nike and a variety of other brands have been doing that through various initiatives. While certain positive pushes have proved popular, namely the Doernbecher and N7 offerings, from a style standpoint, the Swoosh put out their most impressive #BeTrue collection this year.

Though that impressed, more impressive was a piece Pete Forester wrote for Sole Collector on the importance of this collection and also the importance of support and acceptance for the LGBT community not just in everyday culture, but within our own sneaker culture. While historical and personal references were gripping and insightful, a main talking point was the venomous comments that perpetuate such hate. Interestingly enough, a comment on that very post from Raimone Gresham hit it right on the head:

“This culture is for everyone”
