After being rescheduled three different times due to the obstacles created by the COVID-19 pandemic, TEDxPortland celebrated its 10 year anniversary on May 28, 2022. TEDxPortland hosted a series of events at the Moda Center and Theater, with special TED Talks presented throughout the evening. Following music performances by Death Cab for Cutie and a Jimi Hendrix tribute by Tyrone Hendrix, the TEDxPortland x Nike Air Force 1 was unveiled.
While TEDxPortland celebrated their first double digit year, the Nike Air Force 1 also celebrated a milestone of its own as the sneaker just hit its 40th Anniversary. This edition of the AF1 honors the sneaker’s heritage, while also emulating the clear and concise approach of TEDx. The upper is made with all-white tumbled leather with white laces and a white midsole. The lateral heel counter reads, “IDEAS WORTH SPREADING,” a motif that can also be seen on the aglets. The medial heel counter is marked with “1,164” — the number of days it took to make this event happen after all of the reschedules. The signature Nike Swoosh is iridescent and gives the sneaker an ethereal finish. TEDx red is seen on the midsole’s AIR stripe and on the TEDxPortland logo on the tongue. Final touches include a commemorative “10” on the back of the heel tab and the word “AUDACIOUS” printed on the insole. Only 365 pairs were made.
Auctions for the TEDxPortland x Nike Air Force 1 are officially live and can be viewed on eBay. The starting bids have been placed at $499, with the auctions closing on July 8th.
