We here at Nice Kicks appreciate sneaker nicknames with a story attached to them. Even if a sneaker’s story is not having a story, which is the case with the Sneakersnstuff x Reebok Question “Shoe About Nothing”, the inspiration of a shoe’s name is possibly more important than its popularity. In this installment of Sneaker Nicknames Explained, we discuss a few sneakers with historical references to them.

As always, let us know which Sneaker Nicknames you would like to know the story behind next week in the comments below.

Nike Kobe 8 “Venice Beach”

Venice Beach is historical in streetball circles. It is known for some good runs on the West Coast, and is scenic enough to have been featured in the cult classic White Men Can’t Jump. Venice Beach also has a direct tie to the Nike Kobe 8, as the courts were where the sneaker was initially debuted at a large Nike event. This vibrant scheme pays homage to where it all started.
