Raised on the Lower East Side in New York City, Sandy Liang brings her 90’s childhood nostalgia to Vans. This is the third Sandy Liang x Vans collection and will include a full range of apparel and sneakers such as the Vans Sk8-Hi Platform 2.0, Vans Style 73 DX, Vans Half Cab 33 DX, Vans Sk8-Hi Tapered Modular, and two pairs of the Vans Authentic 44 DX.
For Sandy Liang, it was important that this collection represented her deep and personal connection to New York City. As a result, the lookbook was shot in Chinatown to create a casual lifestyle appeal. As you look at photos of the sneakers in discount stores and around the streets, you’re able to get a sense of the simple everyday pleasures of NYC. A lot of Sandy’s designs are inspired by grandma fashion, which you can see here on the Vans Authentic 44 DX, which has a black and white gingham makeup, finished with multi-color flowers, and a detachable pouch on the tongue. The Vans Sk8-Hi Tapered Modular shows Sandy’s versatility as the sneaker comes complete with a removable outsole unit that can transform the sneaker’s aesthetic with ease. The Vans Style 73 DX uses the retro Sidestripe to inspire the vintage floral embroidery, bringing the childhood nostalgia to life. The other Vans Authentic 44 DX plays off the childhood nostalgia theme again, offering a light and airy colorway that’s finished with multi-color floral doodles. The Vans Sk8-Hi Platform 2.0 has a deep green upper with an all-over rose print embroidered on the canvas. This shade of green is also used on the Sherpa upper of the Vans Half Cab 33 DX.
