Team work makes the dream work and for the ultimate trifecta, Roger Federer and Ronnie Fieg partner with On Running for a collaborative sneaker set dedicated to tennis. Known as the THE ROGER RF2 Set, the capsule comes complete with THE ROGER Clubhouse Mid and THE ROGER Pro.
Both Federer and Fieg looked to each other’s ethos to create the set, which combines high-performance elements with a lifestyle finish. With their twinning RF initials as the anchor for the design, THE ROGER Clubhouse Mid and THE ROGER Pro throw it back to the 90’s with design references to the era.
“Roger’s RF logo is so iconic. So rather than alter it, we simply added the squared insignia so that it could represent the both of us,” said Fieg about the RF2 Logo that is debossed on the medial quarter panels and tongue.
Made with vegan leather, On Running developed the shoes so that they would be comfortable for a full day of tennis. Both sneakers feature a Zero Gravity foam midsole and carbon Speedboard outsole for enhanced performance. The wider forefoot and additional rubber toe cap also provide extra support for quick lateral movements.
“Ronnie has an immense amount of knowledge in the sneaker world and that paired with my experience in Tennis made for a great collaboration that we are both proud of,” Federer explained.
The lateral quarter logo features the Unisphere sculpture, a nod to Queens, NY — Fieg’s hometown and the setting of the US Open. THE ROGER Clubhouse Mid has an aged exterior as it comes pre-rubbed in red clay. Meanwhile, THE ROGER Pro comes packaged with a bag of clay, so you can dirty your tennis shoes to your own liking.
The clay is symbolic to Federer’s career as the terrain has been a foundation to his growth and legacy. Referring to tennis’ minor-league professional circuits, Federer explains, “My first challenger was on clay, my first satellite was on clay, the first player I beat was on clay — so, clay came first.”
Both Ronnie Fieg and Roger Federer signed each pair personally. The two-pair set comes in custom co-branded double packaging as both models are sold together. Inside the special double box are 3 spare laces and dust bags for both styles.
