Reebok’s Classic Leather Sneaker Took Center Stage at the New York City Ballet

Art and sport collide as the Reebok Classic Leather sneaker graced the stage of the New York City Ballet, Partita. Choreographed by Justin Peck, Partita features Caroline Shaw’s Pulitzer Prize-winning a capella composition, “Partita for 8 Voices,” along with set design by visual artist Eva Lewitt.

Justin Peck also just recently made headlines as he served as the choreographer for the Steven Spielberg reboot of “West Side Story.” Peck took to his Instagram to share the inspiration behind the ballet saying, “Partita is about presenting a shared space. Guided first by music, second by movement, and third by their interrelation. Existing for an ephemeral moment in time that allows for interpretation, conversation, reflection, and (if you’re open to it) even a little bit of exultation.”

Having the Reebok Classic Leather sneaker be apart of this work is a serendipitous moment at the intersection of art and sport. Pointe shoes are an integral part of ballet and to break away from the elemental traditions of the art is often considered taboo. It’s exciting to see ballet be reinvented and Classics be used in a new way. For more Reebok news and updates on all your favorite sneakers, follow @NiceKicks on Instagram.
