Power-lacing technology is a concept as old as this author. Birthed in 1988 when Tinker Hatfield was working on the movie Back to the Future II, the Nike MAG model sparked the imagination for a shoe that could ‘come alive’ and adjust to one’s foot with no need for loop-swoop-and-pull.

28 years later, the dream is finally becoming a reality by way of the Nike HyperAdapt 1.0. Previewed over the summer and set to release this holiday season, WIRED Magazine got an exclusive look at the sneaker, the extensive R&D process behind it and a look inside Nike’s Innovative Kitchen. Good stuff. Check it out here.
