The Beazley Design of the Year, an annual award and exhibition hosted by the London Design Museum now in its eleventh season, has announced its shortlist of nominees for 2018. Among them, you’ll find Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty line, Sony’s Aibo robotic dog and, alongside some of the greatest creations in the world, Nike’s Nigeria 2018 World Cup Kit.

Making headlines after pre-selling millions of units, the masterful Nike design subsequently became a global phenomenon. A visual representation of the vibrancy of a nation, of a people, Nike tapped into an emotion that quickly spread amongst Nigeria natives and far beyond. They also didn’t stray far from what they know intimately: sneaker culture.

In part, the design is a representation of the importance of sneakers in fashion. The kits adoring chevron graphic — which was later discovered to be the Acronym “A” — famously dons the collaborative Nike Air VaporMax Moc 2 conceptualized by Errolson Hugh.

Other shortlist items in the fashion category are Christopher Bailey’s Burberry Check Raincoat and costume design from Marvel’s Black Panther.

Winners of the 2018 Beazley Design of the Year award will be announced on November 15. All shortlisted nominees will be on display at the London Design Museum until January 6, 2019.
