While Kipchoge didn’t secure a top-three finish at the Boston Marathon 2023, his remarkable achievements and record-breaking performances over the past two decades have solidified his status as a legendary runner. One of his most notable feats was his sub-13 minute 5K at the 9th IAAF World Championships in Athletics in 2003, where he set a course record wearing the Nike Zoom Miler track spike in a distinctive white and red colorway.
The upcoming version of the Nike ZoomX Vaporfly Next% 3 pays homage to this extraordinary accomplishment by adopting the same iconic color scheme that debuted 20 years ago. Similar to previous “EK” editions, this ZoomX-cushioned running shoe showcases Eliud Kipchoge’s initials on the sockliners and tongue labels. The date of the event is printed on the right sockliner, while a motivating quote from the young Kenyan athlete adorns the left side. Lastly, Kipchoge’s signature is proudly displayed on the medial midsole, symbolizing his status as the record holder for the marathon distance.
