The Nike x Kobe series has become one of the most heralded signature lines in all of performance basketball. In particular, the Kobe 6 has become Nike’s forefront silhouette, releasing in a multitude of colorways. Very recently, a new Kobe 6 Protro “Reverse Grinch” was seen on Anthony Davis’ Instagram Live. Now in one of its most historic offerings, this upcoming “Mambacita Sweet 16” Kobe 6 Protro honors the life of Kobe’s daughter Gigi, who would have turned 16 on May, 1 2022.
The Kobe 6 Protro has become an icon for the life-long Laker, detailing many of his own inspirations. This one, instead inspired by the Mambacita herself, features a black and white textured upper. Gold lettering displaying the words Kobe and Gigi are inscribed on the heel, which sits below the Black Mamba branding. The number “2” displayed on the lateral heel pays homage to the Mambacita’s basketball legacy.
The Nike Kobe 6 Protro “Mambacita Sweet 16” is set to drop on April 29th via SNKRS Pass in Los Angeles and SNKRS Exclusive Access on May 1st for Gigi’s birthday. Proceeds from the sales of the sneaker will be donated to the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation.
