1200 Born Free 1 Intro

TEAM “BORN FREE”

For Team Born Free, the group of students looked to Johannesburg, the capital of South Africa, for inspiration. As they began to create a running themed collection, the team identified youthful male and female consumers that were not only style savvy, but also active runners during a morning sunrise, just before school or work.

The “Born Free” name not only captures the spirit of the local kids, but also the reality that these are children born into a post-apartheid era, part of a new generation in modern South Africa. The team’s “Born Free” logo features a bold B, with the ‘F’ visible through negative space. As you’ll see below, both the men’s and women’s footwear and apparel feature vivid gradient fades along the upper of a Nike Presto and Nike Free, and throughout the adjoining tank tops and running jackets.

In addition to the collection, the group of students designed a track-inspired store layout, showcasing the “Born Free” products alongside its motivational mantra about inclusion and hope. To round the project out, the team concepted a series of “Born Free” 5K runs to take place in six global regions around the world, helping to highlight togetherness at once, all inspired by Johannesburg. Check out the team’s presentation and work below.
