With exception to a sample serving of original colorways, much of the subsequent releases of Nike’s Flyknit Trainer don’t hold the luster of those aforementioned OGs. Many are sought after and don’t necessarily collect dust on retail shelves, yet they aren’t quite coveted like the foundational White/Black and Black/White iterations.

There is one pair, however, that ranks among those. The only problem is it’s never released.

Back in 2012 when Nike first introduced the Flyknit Trainer, the release worked in conjunction with the London Olympics. A limited University Red/Black iteration was produced for the USA Track & Field team during the Olympic Trials. It was reported that only 400 pairs were created making them almost impossible to secure.

Now, six years later, Nike is finally releasing the shoe in wider numbers later this summer. True to the original pair in hue, a defined release date for the Nike Flyknit Trainer “University Red” hasn’t yet been announced. Stay tuned for more.
