The Nike Air Max 97 “Cheung Ka Long” Honors Hong Kong’s First Gold Medalist Fencer

The latest celebratory pair from Nike honors Hong Kong’s Cheung Ka Long, who is the country’s first gold medalist in fencing when he won the prestigious award for Men’s Individual Foil back during the 2018 Rio De Janeiro Olympics.

To honor that special moment, the Swoosh has created an aptly gold-fitted Air Max 97. Hits of “Olive Green” and various tan tones dress the pair’s signature wavy overlays, midsole, Air unit, and laces, while a darker shade is seen on the mesh tongues and liner. Golden Swooshes then arrive on the profiles and tongues.

To further the homage to Cheung Ka Long and Hong Kong, his four-word motto is printed on the Air Max bubble while a topographical map of Hong Kong’s tallest mountain peak, Tai Mo Shan, is placed underneath the translucent outsole. The pair also comes at a perfect time, seeing as this year marks both the Air Max 97 and Cheung Ka Long’s 25th birthday.

The Nike Air Max 97 “Cheung Ka Long” is already available in Nike Hong Kong locations while a stateside release may be in the works. Keep it locked to our Sneaker Release Dates Calendar for updates.
