To commemorate Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier, Nike pays homage to the legend himself with a special Nike Air Griffey 1. This inaugural MLB season is the 74th anniversary since Robinson broke the color barrier in the Major Leagues.
The latest edition of the Air Griffey is dressed in a black upper with traditional pull tabs on the tongue and heel. The ankle strap replaces Griffey Jr’s. #24 with Robinson’s #42 along with Robinson’s famous quote, “There’s not an American in this country free until every one of us is free.” Lastly, the pair features the numbers 4 and 2 individually stamped on the insoles, which is a nod to Robinson’s jersey number.
